Lockout / Tagout

A lockout procedure is required when performing maintenance on a machine or equipment in which accidental startup or release of stored energy could cause injury.

Typically a lockout procedure must be followed when it is necessary to bypass, disable or remove guards or to reach into the 'point-of-operation' where the machine does its work.

A procedure usually is not required if the potential hazard(s) are completely controlled by unplugging the equipment and the plug is under the exclusive control of the person servicing the equipment.

Benchmate's Lockout/Tagout program uses the Benchmate CMMS database to store lockout and tagout procedures for each equipment and (if desired) a record of each lockout and release transactions.
